FAQ

How RankReady finds, scores, and ranks domains.

Where do the domains come from?

We scan registrar drop feeds daily for expired, expiring, and recently dropped domains. This includes domains that have passed their renewal grace period and become available for registration, as well as domains approaching expiry that may drop soon.

How does the scoring work?

Every domain gets an overall score from 0 to 100 based on multiple signals:

  • PageRank — Google's measure of link authority, derived from the backlink graph
  • Referring domains — Number of unique sites linking to the domain
  • Organic traffic — Estimated monthly search traffic before the domain dropped
  • Domain age — Older domains with history carry more trust
  • Wayback history — How many snapshots exist and whether it was a real site
  • Name quality — Length, memorability, TLD, brandability

Higher scores indicate domains with stronger existing authority that could give a new project a head start.

What are quality tiers?

Domains are grouped into four tiers based on their aggregate signal strength:

  • S — Exceptional. Strong across multiple signals. Rare finds.
  • A — High quality. Notable in at least one area (backlinks, traffic, or name).
  • B — Decent. Some positive signals worth considering.
  • C — Basic. Minimal existing authority.

What are AI insights?

For domains that score well, we run AI analysis to generate:

  • Business use cases — Suggested projects the domain would be good for
  • Opportunity reasons — Why this domain is worth acquiring
  • Niche tags — Categories like saas, fintech, health, gaming
  • History narrative — What the domain was previously used for

AI insights are available to Premium subscribers.

What does “Was Real Site” mean?

We check Wayback Machine history to determine if the domain previously hosted actual content (a real website) versus being parked or unused. Domains that were real sites tend to have more valuable backlink profiles because the links point to actual content, not placeholder pages.

How often is data updated?

Our pipeline runs daily. New domains are scanned, scored, and added to the database every evening. Stats like availability and lifecycle stage are refreshed on each run.

How do I register a domain I find?

RankReady is a discovery tool, not a registrar. Once you find a domain, register it through your preferred registrar (Namecheap, GoDaddy, Porkbun, Cloudflare, etc.). If the domain shows as “available,” it should be registrable at standard pricing. If it's “expiring,” you may need to use a backorder service.

What's the difference between Free and Premium?

Free users can browse all domains and use basic filters (tier, TLD, freshness). They see domain names, tiers, scores, and age. They can save up to 5 domains and create 1 alert rule.

Premium unlocks advanced metrics (PageRank, traffic, backlinks, referring domains), advanced filters (score range, name length, quick filters, niche text search), AI insights, unlimited saves and alerts, API access, and CSV export.

How does the API work?

Premium subscribers can generate API keys from their account page and make programmatic requests to search, filter, and retrieve domain data. The API supports all the same filters as the web interface plus JSON responses for integration with your own tools.

How do alerts work?

On the browse page, set your filters (e.g. Tier S, .com, fintech niche) and click “Save as alert” in the filter chip bar. This creates a daily alert rule. Every morning, our system checks for new domains matching your criteria and sends you an email digest with any matches. Manage your rules on the account page.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. Go to your account page and click “Manage subscription.” This opens Stripe's billing portal where you can cancel anytime. No questions asked.
